Volunteer Car Scheme

The annual registration fee is £12.00. Your registration is then valid for a full calendar year from your registration/renewal date.

Like DAR trips, you can request to go anywhere in mainland UK. You must be able to get into a car, if you have any mobility equipment like a foldable wheelchair or walker, please make us aware of this so we can match you with a volunteer driver whose car can accommodate these.

Once registered you can start requesting trips straight away. Our trips are 60 pence per mile or part mile with a minimum mileage charge applied of four miles to all trips. There is no extra fee for extra passengers or escorts.

The fare is calculated from

• the volunteer driver’s home address

• to the collection address

• and then to the destination,

One-way trip - we include the mileage back to the volunteer driver’s home.

Return journey - If you are going to be less than two hours at the destination, we ask the volunteer if they will wait with you. The mileage is included back to your address and then on to the volunteer driver’s postcode.

Cancellation - if you are unable to travel and have not contacted the office and if the volunteer arrives at your home, we will ask you to cover the cost of the milage that they have travelled, so that they are not out of pocket.
